Owning your own business is not right for everyone, but for those who
are entrepreneurially minded, a home-based business can be a great
alternative to "traditional" work arrangements.
You must have a product or service that others will want to purchase, a
marketing plan to reach your prospective buyers, and the business
know-how to make everything run smoothly.

Telecommuters are generally
employees who complete all or part of their work from home.
As with all employee / employer relationships, these home-based workers
take full direction from the company they work for and, while they may
have some autonomy, company policies still apply.
On the plus side, telecommuters may be eligible for company
benefits.

Like many home-based business owners, freelancers and independent
consultants are self-employed.
Freelancers often sell services rather than products, though home-based
product sales (particularly via eBay and similar outlets) are
increasing as well.
Writers, artists, IT specialists, proofreaders, consultants, and other
people with specialized "knowledge worker" skills often bill themselves
as freelancers. |
