Fake email “nominations” for the “Oprah Millionaire Contest Show” are making the rounds, asking victims to submit personal information for a chance to get rich on OPRAH. The emails purportedly come from the show, though of course that’s bogus. The thing has become so pestiferous that the FBI issued a warning this week, at http://www.fbi.gov/cyberinvest/escams.htm. The scammers love to invoke Oprah’s name – a similar scam circulated in 2006, inviting people to send personal information to attend an Oprah show taping – because everyone recognizes and trusts her brand. But don’t fall for it. The show has nothing to do with the con. (It’s probably two guys with laptops in a rusty minivan in a muddy field in Romania. Or California.)
